![]() ![]() The last leaders of Dauntless, Eric and Max (Four or Tobias, is often seen as leader of the official Dauntless but is not until the second book when the Dauntless at Candor elect him, Tori Wu and Harrison), are often in dispute of how Dauntless should be lead. Members generally wear provocative or full black leather clothing (or other black materials), piercings, tattoos and are usually seen freerunning through the ruins of Chicago. However, the Dauntless leaders at the time of Tris's initiation were mainly aligned with the more extreme 'freedom from fear' subset, which called for more intense training methods. This subset is generally less extreme, and closer to what the faction originally was. Another subest believes in 'fear under control', or boldness, standing up and doing things in spite of fear. There are technically two 'subsets' of Dauntless, one believing in 'freedom from fear', or eradicating fear by performing more and more reckless acts. Dauntless leaders believe that preparation and facing one's own fears is key to overcoming cowardice, initiates, sixteen year olds who have chosen said faction at the yearly Choosing Ceremony, at Dauntless are worked to both physical and mental breaking points to achieve this. It was formed by a group of people who blamed fear and cowardice as the cause of problems that society faces, genetic impurity. They are the faction dedicated to courage, bravery, strength, intimidation, and fearlessness. "" - Tris explaining the factionsĭauntless is one of the five factions in the world of Divergent. Some people think Dauntless are crazy, which they kind of are. They're our protectors, our soldiers, our police. Dauntless for me is choosing to live a bit slower, choose more wisely and live more freely.Flame " "Then there's Dauntless. I think maybe he wrote the word 'dauntless' not because he necessarily felt it, but as a reminder, encouraging himself to 'be it'. I am still reminded of 'dauntless dave the trapper' on occasion. In daring to live a little differently, in resisting some of the expectations that are placed on us and some of the pressures we place on ourselves, (perhaps side-stepping off the treadmill once in a while), is what I find adventurous. In trying to live more consciously, I believe it is the choice that is adventurous, not any specific activity (especially in a world that prioritises other things). To choose it on occasion above other things. And it wasn't in any particular finish or a trim or design, but it was my hope and dream that you too might set aside the time for whatever 'adventure' looks like and means to you. But it is those collective moments or experiences that I treasure most, and all too often I am reminded that I don't choose 'adventure' often enough when I could and when I should have.īy the time I finished weaving this collection, I realised exactly what I had woven into each basket. Adventure for us is a collection of shared 'moments' in the natural world. For my family and my children, an 'adventure' simply involves a short hike somewhere new, snorkelling a bay or aquatic reserve or simply sharing a sunset on the beach as the waves roll in. I questioned its association involving something 'daring' and its definition often aligned with 'risk'. As I began weaving my own baskets, I spent time questioning the nature of 'adventure'. ![]() Weaving, I have since discovered, is an incredibly mindful activity that allows ample time for reflection. ![]()
